Easy Glamour in the Upper East Side

As featured in Elle Decor’s March issue, stylist and bargain huntress Jackie Astier‘s well curated Upper East Side apartment is elegant, eclectic and glamorous.  With some of the most amazing decor shops right around the corner, you would never guess that the bulk of the furnishings were ebay finds.

Of her decorating, Astier explains, “I wanted the place to have an easy glamour about it, more Paris in the 1970s than the ’40s,” says Astier, “so that it was comfortable to hang out in as a family and chic enough to entertain in.”

I’m in love with this brass Mastercraft cocktail table which, along with the cabinets flanking the velvet chesterfield, was found on ebay.

According to Astier, “buying retail really isn’t that meaningful or interesting.”  I couldn’t agree more.  There’s definitely a certain pride associated with nabbing a fabulous piece of furniture and being able to say you found it on ebay or at a flea market.

This dinning room is so fabulous.  The lacquered walls, gold accents and turquoise really stand out.  The dinning table was crafted from a pair of ’70s brass bases found on ebay.

The Milo Baughman sofa, Paul Evans armchair, Mastercraft cocktail table, and lacquer table lambs were all found on ebay.

I will never tire of an all white kitchen.  The black pendant adds an unexpected edge.

The violet hues, rich textures and metallic accents in this bedroom are simply divine.

As Astier disclaims, “I’d rather die than do anything typical.”  Indeed, staying true to this mantra in her design choices definitely paid off.   Images via Elle Decor.
